Grants and Scholarships
The SCTE Foundation provides grants and scholarships to assist SCTE members in their continual pursuit of knowledge, training and professional development in the cable telecommunications industry. The allocation of funds is based upon career goals, availability of alternative financial assistance by the applicant’s company or state/federal grants or loans and supporting recommendations from the applicant’s references.
GRANTS—Application Process and Eligibility
- Two consecutive years of SCTE membership required to apply.
- Funds can be requested for technical programs and certifications.
- Applications package includes application form and two work-related written references, including one from applicant’s current manager.
- Completed applications will normally be reviewed within six weeks of receipt.
- Applicants can request up to $1,500
- Funds will be allocated on first-come,first-serve basis.
SCTE Foundation Grants for FIRST
To support fundraising efforts of high school robotics clubs and groups where sons and daughters of SCTE members are involved. The SCTE Foundation will award a grant on a quarterly basis, to an active high school FIRST team, who is nominated by an SCTE member and fulfills the eligibility requirements.
FIRST grants are limited to high school students who are involved in school related robotics clubs or organizations. These clubs and organizations must have the intention of inspiring students to pursue higher education and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
Nomination Eligibility
At least one member of the group must have a parent who is an SCTE member in good standing.
NOTE: Submitting a grant application does not guarantee funding for your team.
NOTE: The group agrees to allow their name and photo to be used in SCTE Foundation marketing materials and social media posts.
Eligibility Requirements
- The SCTE Member nominating the group, must complete the application form.
- A letter from the team’s leader must accompany the application form answering the following questions:
- Describe the team’s goals – clear and realistic
- Team Participants: describe who is on the team including mentors, with numbers of participants and diversity of participants (gender, ethnicity).
- Has the team received grant money in the last year? If so, how much and from whom?
- Provide a clear description of how a grant from the SCTE Foundation, if approved, will be used by your team.
SCTE Foundation Scholarship for Engineering and Software Development
To recognize and reward men and women currently working in the cable telecommunications industries’ technical workforce. Scholarships may be used toward a degree program at an accredited two- or four-year college or university; technical training programs through SCTE or affiliate industry training and certifications, including online and distance learning opportunities.
Eligibility
- Four consecutive years of SCTE membership required
- SCTE members who currently in a technical role
NOTE: Application approval is not guaranteed.
Nomination Requirements
Applicants must complete the personal application. In addition to the application, applicants must submit:
- A Professional Resume highlighting career achievement/progression
- Two work-related written references – including one from applicant’s current manager or supervisor.
- Senior Level Endorsement form must be completed by a manager that is TWO MANAGER LEVELS (i.e. 1st Manager Level is the Applicants Manager, 2nd Manager Level is the Manager of the 1st Level Manager) from the applicant. The person providing the endorsement must have received the recommendation for this scholarship by the applicant’s immediate manager, be a member of the applicant’s organization and be someone who is thoroughly familiar with the applicant and can provide a detailed, firsthand appraisal.
